Airport food > Airplane Food
Airports generally have pretty good food. Some airports are far superior than others. Try going through Taipei international sometime to see how cool it can be to eat in an airport! LAX isn’t too bad either, but today’s experience was a little more disappointing than other times. Since we didn’t get a chance to enjoy our usual McDonalds ritual, Beta Pea was understandably a little hungry by the time 1:30 rolled around. She roamed for a time, seeking out the best that Terminal 7 had to offer while I watched our stuff.
She finally settled on a place called “Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner” (BLD). Breakfast can be had any time of the day, no matter the meal. Beta was craving something breakfasty and ordered the breakfast burrito and pastrami sandwich.
Firstly up was the pastrami sandwich. It had good pastrami, and good mustard, both really important to a pastrami sandwich. There were also little cubes of pickles that complemented the pastrami well. Then, things went downhill from there. There was so much oil on the sandwich that it felt like it was just going to slide right through my fingers if I didn’t hold on tight. It made me feel almost I’ll to take a bite. Whatever oil they used on the sandwich must’ve been the same stuff they dipped the side salad in, because that too was super oily. Whatever enjoyment the pastrami gave was quickly taken away by the gallon of water I had to chug to de-grease my mouth.
Secondly, the breakfast burrito had a good amount of stuff in it, meat, cheese, eggs, the usual breakfast burrito fare. The salsa that went with it was also very good and complemented the stuff inside it well. Beta especially loved the fact that it came piping hot. I could bare hold it at first. No complaints there.
Given that we had a short layover in SF, it made sense to try to fill up now.
Though LAX’s terminal 7 isn’t bad for terminal food, it’s still sadly behind when compared to some of the variety offered in other terminals or when compared to airports abroad. One thing is almost a certainty though, the terminal food will likely be better than what you can find on the airplane.
