The taste of Christmas

First night’s menu

Our first dinner with Hurtigruten.  We’re on for the 2nd seating at 8:10 pm.  Now we can find out, does reindeer taste like Christmas? Barely any greens on our plate… Is this Rudolph, or Sven from Frozen?

Look at all those greens!

Dinner was very interesting. We had a salad with some sort of white grain, which I liked a lot, a couple strings of sprouts, a slice of cheese, pomegranate and I assume pomegranate dressing. The dressing was slightly sweet and syrup-y, pretty good. The cheese was strong which I didn’t care for. Overall an interesting salad.

Main Course (Rudolph, or Sven?)

Main course, the dish looked nice, 3 raviolis, two pieces of meat on top of a bed of parsnip purée and a brown mushroom sauce. We had an idea what the meat was but we asked the waitress anyways… Reindeer. The reindeer meat was much more gamey than the stew from lunch, perhaps the pieces of reindeer meat in the stew were super small and had been cooking in a lot of veggies. I tried chewing the reindeer, which was cooked well done & very lean but the after taste got to me… It was very minerally, irony, livery. I love liver but can’t seem to handle the reindeer. I managed to eat one of the two pieces of meat and gave the other to Alpha.

Dessert

Dessert was a merringue looking thing on top of cream and berry compote. Dessert was OK. The merringue was called pavlova.
