Because we got into Honningsvåg late for the start of the North Cape tour, the ship was a little delated getting into Hammerfest, that also allowed us to make up the time for our North Cape tour.

Arrived at Hammerfest after North Cape Tour

As the bus came into town there wasn’t much going on. The town isn’t that large.

20 minutes will get you from one end of town to another

The other excusion that we wanted to do was Hiking in Hammerfest. We definitely wouldn’t have had enough time for the Hiking in Hammerfest because we did the North Cape tour.

Between the two, I would recommend the North Cape tour. I can only make my recommendation based on the fact that there just doesn’t seem to be much around Hammerfest. Sure there’s a nice and high are of the town that you can hike up to and see the whole town and beyond, but really, there isn’t too much to see in my opinion.

There was a bit of time for us to walk around so we decided to explore. Beta saw a bakery on the way in so we headed back up the road to find it.

Small bakery we passed

We didn’t find anything special at the bakery although there were a few interesting looking items

With some time still on our hands we decided to see if we could find a convenience store or something. We like to see what snacks other countries have because usually there’s a new treat waiting to be discovered.

There was a COOP close by so we headed towards that. COOP is like a small supermarket or or a larger convenience store.

COOP Mega and Apotek 1

Note how the COOP mega has this huge sign that says 8-22 and 9-21. These tell us the times that the store is open. 8-22 is 8 am to 10 pm, and 9-21 is 9 am to 9 pm but on weekends. You might notice large numbers next to the names of the stores and those are the times that the store is open. Times that are in parentheses refer to when the store is open on weekends.

Apotek 1 is a pharmacy like CVS, Rite Aid, and Wallgreens back in the U.S.

Lots of items to choose from

We bought a few items:

As we walked towards the ship, we passed the Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society.  We had no idea what it was, but apparently its some sort of society you can join, get a pin, and be a member of like other travelers.  Sort of showing that you’ve been to Hammerfest, because that’s the only place that you can join at.

You can get an official certificate and everything!

We decided that our pictures and experiences are proof enough that we’d been in Hammerfest.
